Can a Nonresident Use Shopify Payments With a U.S. LLC?
A U.S. LLC can be part of a Shopify Payments application, but approval depends on the business structure, actual U.S. business address, bank account, and verification. Shopify documents a passport option for qualifying nonresident representatives of certain LLC types.
Check the business address before forming an LLC
Shopify asks LLCs for the physical U.S. address where business operations primarily occur. A registered agent receives legal documents and may be a separate address. Ask Shopify whether your actual operating arrangement qualifies before paying for formation or an address service.
Match your business type and representative
Review the requirements for your exact entity type. For a private single-member LLC, Shopify documents a valid passport option when the nonresident owner lacks an SSN or ITIN and enters their actual residential address outside the United States. The business must still meet the company requirements.
Confirm the payout account
Check the U.S. bank account requirements on Shopify’s official page, including account type, currency and supported transfers. Verify with your account provider that your account can receive Shopify Payments payouts. An account that can hold USD may still fail the payout requirements.
Keep an alternative ready
If your address, entity or payout setup does not qualify, look up Shopify’s supported providers for the country where your business operates. Compare settlement currency, payout timing, chargebacks, and Shopify’s applicable third-party transaction fees before choosing.
